Gay Not Queer: A Gay Man’s Reckoning with Identity, Sex, Gender, Trauma, and Conversion Therapy (completed manuscript, approximately 100,000 words)
Currently under submission to literary agents.
This raw, unflinching memoir builds on the story told in my first book, The Inheritance of Shame. It traces my journey from childhood sexual abuse and bullying through the six-year psychiatric conversion therapy, escape and recovery, and then two decades of advocacy that helped pass landmark bans on conversion therapy in Canada—only to discover that those same laws now enable “gender-affirmative care” to function as the newest form of conversion therapy for same-sex-attracted youth. The book expands on two essays previously published in Quillette.
